"I do not know the laws. At age 18 I left Yerevan and lived for 12 years in a village, isolated, and when I came back to Yerevan, I did not know who to ask. My neighbors saw that I had bruises, but who will listen now? I never thought I could ask for police assistance. Besides, I was afraid of the consequences. Now I'm not afraid of anyone because I have nothing to lose [...] I want to complain. But here goes back many years. I did not go to the police at first but only a doctor.
But I still want to [take action in court] and he is prosecuted for what he did. But I will be there now possible to prove that he is the culprit? I have documents medical attest injury. If I can prove it, I will not hesitate to do so ...

THE CASE OF GRETA Baghdasaryan, July 2008

Greta Baghdasaryan was born in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
In 1986 she met her first husband. He testified that the man raped her in 1989 and she became pregnant. To keep secret pregnancy and the child, he drove with his parents in the region Aragatsotn where they were married in 1990.

Blows, rape and other violence have become commonplace at Throughout her married life.
In an interview with Amnesty International she remembered that
during her pregnancy he was forced to walk long distances without water, beating with a stick "like a cow." It would have a miscarriage as a result of these beatings. She finally left her husband in January 2001 after he had FRAPP ed with a shovel, breaking her nose and causing him a concussion. His neighbor was dissuaded from calling the police
and she returned to Yerevan, where his parents live. She went to the doctor, who noted the medical evidence without making account of his situation to the police. These
mistreatment left her crippled and unable to work and provide for her children.

She now has more confidence in her, is more aware of their rights and will not remain silent about her experiences. She also hopes her attacker will be prosecuted, although his current lawyer who belongs to the Sakharov Centre for the Protection of Human Rights, a nongovernmental organization Armenian, said that under the law on time he only limitation is not possible to bring an action before the courts. Apparently, the reports containing the Medical evidence is not admissible in court proceedings.
Her children and herself no longer have access to the family home, built with the help of her father when she lived with her husband. After officially divorced her husband in 2002, she discovered that in their absence he shall cause his son's record of two local residents. This led to the violation of some of their rights under the status of citizen of Armenia, including the right to vote, and limiting access to education, health services and social protection. Greta Baghdasaryan began proceedings from a local court to request that the share of property that is returned back to him and that the names of his son be reinstated in the register of local residents.
Three applications were rejected by the Regional Court of Ashtarak. Greta Baghdasaryan believes she was discriminated against in any proceeding before the local court because it is considered a "foreign" by the family and friends of her husband who are part of local government.
