Demonstration in Yerevan calling to follow the Egyptian example

Thousands Armenians took to the streets Friday in Yerevan calling for the resignation of the government and the mobilization against the government on the pattern of events in Egypt.

This event took place, while the coalition government has a majority in parliament on Thursday expressed its support for the current president Serzh Sarkisian as a candidate for re-election for president in Armenia in 2013. Sarkisian is however very critical of his country to the failure of the normalization of relations with Turkey, Yerevan
The opposition also criticized Mr. Sarkissian deadly violence that followed his election to the presidency against his main rival Levon Ter-Petrossian in 2008. Protests against his victory in the presidential election had now degenerated into rioting and pitched battles with police and had resulted in the deaths of two policemen and eight civilians and wounded dozens.
